Gamer Claims Razer Headset Saved His Life By Catching Stray Bullet

Razer

Probably the only time someone’s been happy to find that their Razer peripheral was broken.

Wednesday last week saw an 18-year-old saved by their Razer headset in Torrance, California. A stray bullet entered their window, ricocheted off the wall, and then glanced off of his Razer Kraken headset. Nobody was injured, though the gamer noted a lingering headache.

So, as you do, he went and posted about the incident on Reddit.

hello to everyone who sees this. i’m trying to get a hold of someone at razer to thank them with all my heart. wednesday morning at 10:30am a stray bullet went through my window and hit the razer headphones on top of my head. if it wasn’t for the headphones made with good quality i would’ve been a dead kid at the age of 18. i couldn’t even imagine all the pain my family and friends would’ve been through.

He went on to say that he found the bullet on his bed and turned it over to the police.

Unfortunately, for him, this all just happened to occur around April Fools Day. Which of course led people to doubt the entire thing. To that, he made a second post showing the bullet hole in his window, as well as the divot in the wall. Even then, there were more than a few posters that still cast doubt on the occurance.

That said, Razer at the very least believes in him. Razer founder and CEO Min Liang-Tan posted “Whoa – that’s crazy. Glad you’re OK!”, in the thread. And Razer as a company issued the following statement:

This is not an April Fool’s prank, at least not from us. We’ve reached out to the community member already to thank him and at least get him a new headset.

According to the teen, police said the bullet was a 9mm from a shooting that happened in his neighborhood. Which probably meant that by the time it went through the window glass and ricocheted off the wall, it had lost enough inertia to allow the headset to make the save and leave the teen uninjured. Still amazing that it did, though.
