GAMbIT trailer roundup, volume 3

Hey guys, let’s make fun of a movie trailer or two, shall we?

movie trailer

Fury stars Brad Pitt and his Macklemore haircut. Pitt plays the commander of a tank crew in WWII, and the film comes from David Ayer, so I’m okay with this because tanks kick ass and End of Watch was really good. Fury also stars Shia LaBeouf, who something something plagiarism joke.

James Franco has quite the man-crush on Cormac McCarthy, it would seem. The other day he published a review of a film that never happened, Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of McCarthy’s Blood Meridian, and today he’s debuted the movie trailer for his new film Child of God. It’s hard to tell from this trailer, but this guy is banging those corpses. Imagine getting that phone call from your agent. “I got the perfect role for you! Now hear me out…”

Are You Here comes from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, and looks pretty solid. Zach Galifianakis plays a man-child who inherits his dad’s business after the old man dies. I’m wary about Galifianakis playing yet another variation on Alan from The Hangover, but the cast is good and it’ll be interesting to see how Weiner handles dramedy.

The Drop is James Gandolfini’s last movie (but they said the same thing about Enough Said, so it looks like Gandolfini is the new Tupac). About 20 seconds into this movie trailer, I was wary, because I’m tired of people saying “You know whose money you’re stealing?” in crime films. Then at 25 seconds all my doubts were gone, because the story comes from Dennis Lehane, one of the best crime writers of the last century. Consider me excited for this one.

It’s nice to see Robert Downey Jr. out of “cocky asshole” mode; since 2008 he’s basically been playing different version of Tony Stark. The Judge looks good, if a little schmaltzy, but I’ll see it because it costars Billy Bob Thornton, who just did career-defining work on Fargo.

And lastly we have The Two Faces of January, from Drive writer Hossein Amini. The film looks uncomfortably tense, which is about right for anything based off of a Patricia Highsmith novel. Plus, Oscar Isaac. I’m in.

Be sure to check back next week for a new batch of movie trailers to make fun of.
