Fullmetal Alchemeist is that one anime that confuses non-anime fans. It has two television series that look identical on the surface that can be confusing to newcomers, as well as a long running manga to dive into. But major fans now have something new to get excited about as the series is coming to the big screen in a live-action film.
There have been a few films in the Fullmetal series already, but all have stuck to the tried-and-true animation that the television series is known for. But the next film in the series is going to mix things up by going live-action, much as the Attack on Titan film did from last year.
Anime streaming service Crunchyroll is reporting that the film will be directed by Fumihiko Sori, who already has experience with manga to live-action adaptations. He most recently worked on Ping Pong and Ashita no Joe, neither of which made it stateside.
The sull cast has yet to be revealed, but we know it will feature Ryosuke Yamada as series star Edward Elric. No word yet on who will be inside the giant knight armor of his compatriot/brother Alphonse. The film will make heavy use of CG, so we could be seeing Alphonse be entirely CG like the Hulk was in The Avengers series of films.
No details on the plot of the film have been released, so we don’t know if this will be a continuation of the story or if this live-action take will be a sort of reboot.
As long it isn’t as terrible as the two-part Attack on Titan live-action “thing” we covered, everything should be fine. Everything should be fine…
