The Flash “Rogue Air”

It’s getting down to it. We’re just a few episodes away from the season finale of The Flash. And this episode was chock full of good stuff.

This time, the episode begins with Eobard (Wells) giving the opening narration. It has to do with how he feels about all of the things in his life that have been taken from him, laid over cuts of the other characters in reflection. As he finishes, it shows that he’s talking to Eddie, ending on an affirmation that he will get back everything that has been taken from him.

Apparently, Iris accidentally ordered 2000 return labels for her wedding invitations. Barry once again promises that he will find Eddie (SPOILER: he doesn’t). Cisco calls, and Barry heads over to STAR Labs.

Cisco made a discovery with Wells’ wheelchair. They had all assumed it was meant to draw sympathy by letting him play crippled. Cisco couldn’t get past the thought that there was another reason, however, and discovered that it was running off of a futuristic generator capable of powering Central City all by itself. He believes that Wells was using it to supercharge himself to make him faster than Barry.

The reactor starts up, alerting them to the possibility that Wells has been in the building the entire time .Barry, Joe and Cisco go down to check it out, and the Reverse Flash appears, sending Barry chasing after him. Also, Shawna Baez (Peekaboo) gets released and totally curbstomps Joe and Cisco. Caitlin shows up just in time to get her ass kicked by Peekaboo. Caitlin is just about to get shot when Iris shows up and knocks Peekaboo out with a freaking huge wrench.

Barry Fails to catch the Reverse Flash. Joe, Cisco, Caitlin and Iris get Peekaboo back in containment. Joe notices someone yelling for help, and they find Eddie. Iris finds the ring box Eobard tossed into the corner.

Eddie tells them about his time with Eobard. We find out that Wells’ “key” is a power source that is juicing up the particle accelerator. Cisco estimates that they have 36 hors before it starts up. They realize that if the accelerator starts up with the metahumans inside, they’ll be killed, and decide that the best option is to send them to Oliver’s prison island. Joe has serious misgivings about this plan.

Barry talked to Diggle’s wife, and Joe made the poor decision to talk with the DA to clear the transport, which she declines. Desperation drives Barry to contract Leonard Snart to help with the transport. Snart says he’ll only help if Barry gets him something, which he writes down on a piece of paper and hands to him. Barry immediately rejects it as impossible, arguing that there must be something Snart wants that he can actually deliver. Snart says that he’ll think about it.
Cisco jury rigs a containment device for the metahumans to allow them to transport them to the pickup at Ferris airfield. Snart shows up, and asks for everything about him to be deleted; criminal record, family tree, everything. Joe doesn’t like it, but Barry won’t let the metas die. He deletes everything, and Snart informs him that his sister will be joining them.

Cisco borrowed a truck from his Uncle’s shipping company, and Snart’s sister offers to drive it, as she’s the only one with a Class A commercial license. The transport goes well. Cisco gives Snart’s sister her codename “Golden Glider”. Snart says that he thought Ferris Air had been shut down. Barry tells him it did; one of the test pilots went missing.

The containment fails, however, letting the metas out. Mark Mardon takes out the Argus transport plane, and he, Deathbolt and Rainbow Raider start the offensive on and co., while Barry deals with The Mist. Peekaboo gets the hell out of Dodge. The Weather Wizard and Deathbolt coordinate their attacks to take down Barry, and Deathbolt moves in for the kill. He immediately catches a cold gun blast to the face and dies. Cold lays down the law for the remaining metas; they owe him one for making sure they didn’t wind up on that plane.

After they leave, Snart goes over to Barry to gloat. He tells Barry that they’re more use to him as his rogues than rotting away on the island. He also tells Barry that the person he’s really upset with is himself, not Snart.

Skipping forward a bit, the accelerator is fully charged, and Wells is at the front gate. Barry rushes out to face him. Wells never planned around the metas. He tells Barry that if he reflected on it, he’d realize that Wells had done exactly what he needed to do, no more, no less. Ronnie and Oliver show up, having finally gotten Barry’s call for help.

The fight is spectacular. I really don’t want to spoil it here. It simply begs to be watched. Eventually, Ronnie gets a clean hit on the Reverse Flash, knocking him off the roof of STAR Labs and onto a car below. Oliver nabs him with another dose of nanites. Barry thanks them both, and they head off. Barry claims victory, and the episode ends.

The Flash has been good. Excellent, even. I can’t recall a truly bad episode thus far. And episodes like this one are the reason why. They’re really willing to give you a show.

Final Thoughts:

  • It was a stroke of genius to have the jukebox play Foreigner’s “Cold as Ice” during that first scene with Snart.
  • The Mist just sort of disappears after Barry beats him.
  • Oliver is supposed to live to age 86? Crap, man.
