The Flash picks up right where it left off last week; Barry caught, zoom aware of Harry’s presence, and a whole bunch of dead Earth-2 counterparts. Why, it’s almost like they’re killing them off to plan for something…
Harry nearly blows Cisco’s head off when he barges into his office. Zoom has been running around literally painting the town with flyers he somehow had printed up demanding that Wells be turned in to him. He even went so far as to write it in fire on the side of a skyscraper, so you know he’s super cereal about it. So, yeah, Harry’s kind of on edge.
They realize that they still have Earth-2 Barry tied up in a utility closet. Just as they free him, though, Zoom decides to attack STAR Labs. Their only option is to hide, and it just so happens that Harry also has a time vault… for some reason. It seems to just be used as a panic room, judging by the racks of supplies, but I’m just going to let the questioning drop. They fool Zoom with a fake wall, but Harry’s sure that trick won’t work a second time. Also, E2 Barry screams and whimpers almost as consistently as Ruby Rhod.
Earth-2 Barry gets Iris roped into things, giving her the short explanation of events. They decide that the best way to track down Zoom is through Killer Frost, since Zoom himself manages to evade notice fairly well. Since Barry’s forensic credentials are no joke, he can actually track the movements of metahumans and predict where they’ll go; well, other than Zoom. Iris tries to get him to stay behind, but Barry insists on going along with them.
Over on Earth-1, Jay fixed the Speed Cannon offscreen. Caitlin has improved the Velocity formula to magic no. 9. She hasn’t run any tests on it, but she doesn’t really get to since Geomancer decides that attacking a building to be a dick is a great idea at that time. As it turns out, it not only works perfectly, Jay continues to feel its effects for the remainder of the episode (roughly a day, judging from the few mentions of time)., Jay lays down for a nap afterwards, since he’s been burning the candle at both ends, which is when Caitlin realizes that not only is the Velocity 9 a winner, it’s also kickstarted Jay’s latent healing. Geomancer figured out that STAR Labs is their home base, and attacks them in an attempt to draw Jay out. Despite almost getting flattened by a rack of gadgetry, Caitlin hits him with the Metahuman boot they built for the CCPD. She was aiming for the leg; she hit him in the neck.
His attack messed up the speed cannon, and they spend the rest of the episode trying to fix it. They do it just in time (of course), but it’s one of those superscience type deals, where flipping a bunch of inconveniently placed switches fixes it. If the Velocity 9 had worn out they’d be SOL.
Barry and Jessie spend a fair amount of time talking. Barry finally gets her to trust him after letting her know that, yes, her father isn’t just a self-obsessed ass. They also realize out that their fellow prisoner in the gimp helmet is actually trying to communicate with them via 5 by five tap code. They figure out that it has something to do with Jay Garrick before Zoom shows up to deliver a beating to Barry. This ultimately helps him figure out how to get out of his cell, but he isn’t successful until the others get there.
They do so by convincing Killer Frost that Zoom doesn’t actually care about her. It takes Cisco reminding her that Zoom killed Ronnie, and by stating that the Caitlin he knows wouldn’t stay loyal to someone that did that. As a matter of fact, it destroyed her when Ronnie died. She not only leads them to Zoom’s hideout, she builds them an ice ladder of sorts to get to it. She even breaks Jessie’s chains. And after it seems like she sold them out to Zoom, she decides to hold him off while they make their escape. Her fate is uncertain, but we can probably guess.
They just barely all make it across the rift, despite Zoom actually catching Harry. Barry gets him away and across the rift thanks to one of the slowdown darts distracting him for just long enough. Jay seals up the rift forever, but he JUST. CAN’T. HELP. standing in front of the fucking thing as it closes.
I guess from the preview that The Flash won’t be dealing with this next week, but seriously. You know nothing good is going to happen when they do those short cuts back and forth like that.
Final Thoughts:
- Random stupid thought of mine: Zoom is Black Lantern Flash.
- What is it with Reverse-Flashes and giant gaping chest wounds?
- The implication that mask guy is in fact Jay Garrick will not leave my mind.
- The scenes for next week needed a bigger bumper.
