Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location might be delayed because it’s too distrubing

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a monster of a series. It’s so simplistic that many people barely consider it a game, but it’s impact can’t at all be understated. You can’t search through the Steam store without stepping on at least three FNAF clones. Hell, one of the worst games ever reviewed on this site is a damn FNAF clone.

So when Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location was announced people rejoiced. The series has had a few missteps as of late, but it still holds a special place in people’s hearts. Also, all those YouTuber’s that fake scream and get scared over a single pixel need to make their money somehow.

This new entry in the series was scheduled to hit Steam on October 8th, but now we are hearing that it might be delayed. This isn’t out of the ordinary for a game, but the reason given sure as heck is.  Scott Cawthon released a statement about the possible delay on Steam stating that he “…wanted to post an announcement that this game might be postponed, and I’m not really sure when it [will] be released.”

He went on saying  that “There are certain plot elements that are very dark, to the point where I sometimes feel sick. There would be no easy fix to this. I either release it Friday as it is, or I delay it by several months to completely rework the plot into something kid-friendly.”

It’s strange for a horror title to be delayed for being too horrific, but that’s where we are. The fact that Cawthon is concerned about the game being “kid friendly” leads he to believe that FNAF is more a media empire now than a game series.

The merchandise is all over the place (I even have some on the shelf here in the office) and since it’s mostly kids buying the stuff, hurting the brand isn’t the best thing. We shall see what happens and where the series goes from here. It can’t be as bad the  Five Nights at Freddy’s RPG that came out well before it was ready.
