First video of new ‘Sega Genesis Flashback’ console is here

The all-new Sega Genesis Flashback has a new design, reminiscent of the original console, and features 85 built-in games as well as an integrated cartridge port that plays almost all of your favorite Sega Genesis and Mega Drive original cartridges. Built-in all-time favorites include the Sonic series, Mortal Kombat series, Phantasy Star series, and Shining Force series games.

Two new high performance 2.4ghz wireless controllers, styled after the Sega Genesis originals, are included, as well as two legacy controller ports for optional wired gamepads. Other new features for the Sega Genesis Flashback include 720p HDMI output, scan line filtering, and a save/pause/rewind feature for every game.

The system also features what AtGames calls “incredible stereo sound” which is interesting. If you know AtGames from their other Sega consoles, the one big issue people had with them is the terrible and tinny sound emulation they produced.

But the biggest change from other consoles is the new high resolution interface that seems to be running some sort of Android OS. I can’t be sure of that, but it would make more sense then creating an entire OS around a budget console. That said, it looks pretty amazing over their past offerings that looked very cheap.

The console also comes with a console port so that you can play all your old Genesis titles. It also seems to rip the games to the console much in the same way the Retron 5 does. And each game on the system also comes with detailed instructions in on the menu much like was done with the fantastic Genesis Collection on the PS3. You can also access the games controls while playing a game as well!

And because of the system running a new OS you will be able to save and load games from memory. This is a major change over past iterations from AtGames that had no way to save data. They even go one step further by have save-states for those that are into that sort of thing. This really helps if you speedrun or like practicing certain segments of a game.

The Sega Genesis Flashback also allows you to mess about with different display options. This means you can run at the new HD settings (which look great) and switch to a scanline filter for a more classic look.

AtGames has been knocked for their cheap Sega consoles over the years, but this new one really does look leaps and bounds above anything they’ve ever put out in the past. We really want this one to be special and can’t wait to get our hands on it for a full review soon.
