In the Mummy, opening June 9, Russell Crowe plays Dr. Jekyll, who runs Prodigium, a society dedicated to fighting monsters. The Mummy keeps looking weirder and weirder the more we learn about it.
Apparently Dr. Jekyll runs some sort of monster lab that hunts monsters or something. It’s clear that they are building all these classic monsters into a larger world that will go on beyond The Mummy. I’m not sure how I feel about this, but I’m willing for them to get it another (how many times is is now?) go.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie. It’s a reboot of The Mummy franchise and is intended to be the first installment in the Universal Monsters shared universe. Think The Avengers but with spooky things!
The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. The film is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017 in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D.
