Final Fantasy IX Coming To PC & Mobile

Final Fantasy IX

I give Final Fantasy a lot of grief, all completely warranted for a hallway simulator, but that’s not to say that there aren’t iterations of the series that I do enjoy. One of the last entries into the series that I feel holds true to the original ideals and style of the original games is Final Fantasy IX.

This oft overlooked gem from the days of the PlayStation 1 is finally getting some love, as Square Enix is bringing the game back in 2016 to both PC and mobile devices. Can you believe that we are at the point where multi-disc games from the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 era now easily fit on the cellphones in our pockets? Crazy times we are living in.

The game will arrive in Japan sometime in 2016, and while there is no word on a North American release, we can safely assume one will follow shortly after. As with other ports from Square Enix, FFIX will features some updates and improvements. The game will implement graphical fixes/improvements, as well as auto-saves and a high-speed mode to move the game along for those on mobile devices, or for those that need their RPGs shoved down their throats at blistering speeds.
