It’s mostly smaller stuff, so keep those expectations where they belong.
Facebook just revealed their cloud gaming service, which is a part of Facebook Gaming. It is free-to-play, and allows you to share and play games. Right now, it’s only in beta for a select few users, but it’ll probably get rolled out in full soon enough.
You should temper your expectations, however, as they’re not aiming to take on Sony or Microsoft with this move. Rather, the service is launching with just 5 games. They are:
- Asphalt 9: Legends by Gameloft
- Mobile Legends: Adventure by Moonton
- PGA TOUR Golf Shootout by Concrete Software, Inc.
- Solitaire: Arthur’s Tale by Qublix Games
- WWE Supercard by 2K Games
They also plan on adding Dirt Bike Unchained by Red Bull in the coming weeks.
So, you might have noticed that all of these are basically mobile titles. The point, according to Facebook’s news post, is that they’re all playable exactly the same as they are right now on Facebook Gaming.
All cloud-streamed games are playable in the same way you play games now on Facebook — whether it’s in our Gaming tab or from News Feed. No special hardware or controllers needed – your hands are the controllers since we’re launching with native mobile games. And you can play these games with a mouse and keyboard on desktop. More than 380 million people play games each month on Facebook, and people will play cloud-streamed games right alongside those playing instant games in HTML5. And if we do our jobs right, you won’t notice how the games are delivered.
I’m gonna be honest, the whole thing is kind of throwing me for a loop. I don’t really see the benefit in it. But maybe there’s some sort of distant goal, here, or something. Regardless, Facebook game streaming is now a thing.
