Your prayers have been answered! Facebook is currently in the process of building a dislike button, so you can now tell all your friends and family how you really feel in the most passive aggressive way possible.
Mark Zuckerburg speaking at a Town Hall meeting said,
“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.”
“What [users] really want is the ability to express empathy,” said the 31-year-old CEO. “Not every moment is a good moment.”
Facebook wants to be clear that this new button isn’t like a downvote on reddit, or a dislike on YouTube, but instead is framed differently so as people will no longer have to “like” a post that requires empathy. We’ve all either seen it, or done it; like a post about something terrible, even only to show support.
Still, whatever Facebook may think/want, people are going to abuse this button, probably on all those listicles that Buzzfeed and its ilk love to post.
