Exploding Kittens card games makes Kickstarter history

Exploding Kittens, a humble little card game from Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal) and friends has officially become one of the top crowdsourced projects in Internet history! I should note that my love for The Oatmeal is great (I have all the books as backed this very Kickstarter) so I am happy to see that the projects 200,000 fans managed to pledge well over $8 million. What is even wilder is that the team behind Exploding Kittens only asked for $10,000!

In terms of supporters backing the project, Exploding Kittens is now sitting as the most backed project in Kickstarter history. In terms of popularity  Reading Rainbow clocked in with 105,000 backers at $5.4 million and the Veronica Mars movie nabbed 91,000 backers for a total of 5.7 million. The project plans to ship out the game to backers this July.

“Production of the game is simple: it’s just a card game, so other than building the box it’s a relatively straightforward product to make. The biggest challenge for us would actually be if you blow us out of the water.”

If you are a fan of card games then you’ll easily be able to pick this on up and play with friends, but for those of you wondering just how this massive funded game works I’ll let the team explain thing below.
