With friends.

Evercade has announced a new home console version of their Evercade retro games handheld, the Evercade VS. And it’s packing some new features over its handheld predecessor.

Notably, it has support for up to 4 controllers for local multiplayer (for games that allow that many players, natch), as well as controllers based on their handheld’s design. But that’s not all; it also features a second cartridge slot, expanding the potential number of games you can play at one time up to 40. It also features built-in WiFi (for firmware updates), 1080p HDMI output, support for USB controllers of any manufacture, and supports all existing Evercade cartridges. Moreover, your Evercade handheld can be used as an additional controller.

They also took the opportunity to tease a new compilation cartridge, signified with a stand-in box titled “What Is This Then?”; speculation is that it’s PS1-era games, since the new controllers have R2+L2 buttons, and the 1.3 firmware update mentions (under Fixes) that the emulator was updated to handle larger game files, with the example mentioned being PS1.
