Etsy gets physical with free credit card reader

Etsy

Etsy is the place for all the crafters/artists/creators to sell their original works to the public. Heck, I have a shop on there that sells my original art prints and custom shoes (I’m a man of many talents). While the company is primarily known for its online marketplace, they seem to be making a move into the real world.

Etsy is making the leap into physical sales with their new credit card reader that works in the same way that the ones from Square and PayPal do. This free reader will allow you to do physical sales at local or national craft shows/comic book conventions.

What makes this reader different is that it will tie directly to your Etsy account. Say you sell a product at your local craft show, the Etsy reader will automatically process the request, but will also remove that listing from your digital store. This is great for those that want to be free to sell what’s in their online store direct to the public without the hassle of logging in and removing anything.

This opens up all new avenues of revenue for those that have previously done their selling only through the website. Buyers that have an existing Etsy account can also leave reviews just as they would online. It’s a cool system and Etsy only takes a small 2.75 percent cut of each sale made.
