No good thing lasts forever.
Sony recently announced changes to the structure of PlayStation Plus, seemingly to bring the service more in line with their competitor, Xbox Game Pass. Just a few months from now, those changes will go live. And some users figured out that, since PlayStation Plus/Now memberships stack, and a yearly subscription is less expensive now compared to the price of PlayStation Plus Premium, and PlayStation Now memberships will carry over and be converted to the highest tier in June…
…why not buy a bunch of years of PlayStation Now ahead of time?
It was the perfect crime! Get years of the top tier service for half price. And the best part was that it was a win/win; users get years of PlayStation Plus Premium for half price, and Sony sees those install base numbers rise.
Ah, but that was also the problem; Sony is a company, and companies want to make money. And they were losing $60 on every sneaky PlayStation Now year subscription users were tacking on. So, naturally, they killed that trick earlier today.
… or, at least, if you’re buying directly from Sony. People immediately figured out that you could go to key resellers and gift cards. So you might still be able to do it. However, all of those keys are probably sold out now thanks to the absolute feeding frenzy.
Ah, well. Que Será, Será.
