Eight Years Late Guild Wars 2 Comes To Steam

Guild Wars 2 launched eight years ago and has been entertaining fans ever since. It’s a fun game and I’ve popped in and out with both Guild Wars 2 and the original. It’s my kind of system as you pay for the game like any other release and get access to the MMO instead of a monthly subscription.

Sure, the game is pretty old by this point but opening it up to players on Steam is sure to open the floodgates for new users. Both of the original titles used their own launchers and haven’t ever been tied to a digital storefront before.

Along with Guild Wars 2 comes all the expansions and added content if you like the game and want to shell out some more for added content. The expansion system seems so ancient at this point but I’m still a fan of it and incentives developers to deliver great content to keep themselves afloat and not just get lazy thanks to those monthly subscriptions.

“Guild Wars 2 has endured for the better part of a decade because of its innovative gameplay, rich storytelling, and passionate fanbase,” NCsoft West COO Chauncey Gammage said. “As the game’s incredible fantasy world prepares to grow once again with the End of Dragons expansion, we are excited to bring this universally acclaimed gaming experience to Steam users around the globe.”

The only sticking point is that you won’t be able to transfer your current non-steam account over to Steam. This means you’ll have to start fresh with a new character which might actually be fun and has me excited. Restarting the adventure with friends not versed in the game on Steam sounds like a fun time.
