E3 2020 Cancelled

E3

’twas a dark day for the ESA.

It seems that the 2020 E3 expo has been cancelled.

The rumors started on March 10th, when Devolver Digital sent out the following tweet:

Supposedly, the ESA was supposed to make an announcement regarding the cancellation on March 10th, though for whatever reason, that didn’t happen. But it did happen the next day:

Previously, the ESA put out an announcement regarding the coronavirus fears that have, in fact, shut down other conventions.

That said, while it was looking to be a much smaller year for E3, it still means that a lot of business will functionally go undone. This will also be a blow to smaller companies and exhibitioners, as this was their major opportunity to network.

As of this writing, Ubisoft and Microsoft have announced digital events to take the place of this year’s show.
