So tasty!
Getting some time on Monster Hunter World‘s Iceborne expansion was probably my number 1 goal with a bullet. And I’m happy to say, I got it.
The expansion has its share of new features, such as letting every weapon use the slinger without sheathing first, and the clutch claw. But for me, it’s always about the monsters. And, due to the fact that my group was considered intermediate, we got to face off against one of the new monsters introduced in Iceborne: Banbaro.
Managing the cold is important in the new area, Hoarfrost Reach. so you mix up a few hot drinks, and head out in searchh of monsters. We traversed a small amount of the area before encountering Banbaro, but there was plenty worthy of note. The Reach features a few deep snowbanks that make movement difficult. It’s as important to avoid fighting in them as it is to avoid fighting in swamps and streams.
We happened across Banbaro quickly. And I wish I could say I got a few opportunities to play around with what the clutch claw can do. But really, I kinda just did what came naturally; I poked it to death with my lance. That’s not to say I didn’t have help, though; merely that we all, sadly, went to the old reliable in our personal repretoires.
That said, Banbaro was a thrill to fight. I’ve killed so many Rathians over the years, they mean practically nothing to me. So new chew to- I mean monsters, is a great thing. Especially as Banbaro seems to be built on the skeleton of a monster I previously never cared for, Duramboros. Banbaro is far more active and fun to fight, I’d argue.
Sadly, these things are but a taste. But at least it won’t be a long wait. Monster Hunter World‘s Iceborne expansion launches September 6th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $39.99, if you have the base game. And if you’re anything like me, you already do.
