Exciting news for Dragon Quest fans coming out of Tokyo Game Show. Launching this January, Dragon Quest Builders takes the gameplay that has made Minecraft a near unstoppable phenomenon and adds the Dragon Quest universe into the blender.
Sure, it’s just another building game, but it’s the first done by a major studio with a well-loved franchise. Dragon Quest Builders adds a layer of polish that stands apart from the more chunky, voxel style that Minecraft employs.
Dragon Quest Builders takes a third-person approach to gameplay, and the lack of a first-person mode makes it different than Minecraft. While it’s nice to be able to see your character, it does seem to cause issues if you can to just explore the world in a free-form way. Being locked into the third-person keeps DQB feeling for like a game, than just a glorified tool.
Still, the bigger problem is that the game isn’t –at the time of this writing– slatted to come out outside of Japan. All we know is that the game will drop on the PS3, PS4 and Vita this January. Here’s to hoping the game gets a worldwide release.
