For $1.25

It seems DC has partnered with Dollar Tree to sell comics in stores across the nation.

That’s right, Dollar Tree has comics, and they’re being sold at their over 15,000 locations across the US, including stores under the same parent company umbrella, like Dollar Bills and Family Dollar. A representative of the distributor told Bleeding Cool:

We have 38 titles currently in the stores, all #1 issues. List below. We are launching additional #1 issues early next year. Limited release per issue. All titles are DC.

It’s worth keeping in mind that this isn’t the first time Dollar Tree has sold comics, typically in grab bag or trade paperback form. But this is a little different; they’re not only being sold point-of-sale, but they seem to be new prints of these stories made specifically for this rollout, including new ads. In other words, they’re not overstock, as is typical for dollar stores, but new stock for this specific purpose. The stories in these books are exactly the same as in their original runs, according to that spokesperson. Moreover, they’re polybagged, to avoid the usual shelfwear you’d find in stores like Walmart.

But most notable of all, is the fact that these comics are being sold for $1.25. That’s considerably less than the $3.99-$4.99 most comics cost in other stores nowadays, and a significant discount on the prices of some of these titles in their initial runs.
