Kinda stuck, there.
Chances are, at some point, you’ve flipped to a Turner network like TNT or TBS, and caught them running a Star Wars marathon or something. Well, Disney would very much like for that deal to end.
According to Bloomberg, Disney wants to buy back the television rights to the Star Wars movies they sold to AT&T’s Turner networks two years ago. Mostly due to the fact that Turner having the rights keeps Disney from putting those films on that streaming service they have planned. As it stands, Turner has the rights to air them through 2024.
While it’s common for studios to sell the rights to their films to various networks, this is an odd situation. After all, it’s going to be pretty hard for Disney to take on Netflix when their heavy hitters are elsewhere. Either way, Turner doesn’t seem to want to budge, so Disney’s got an uphill battle.
