The Fox deal gave them a fair amount of grist for the mill.
Disney’s been pretty tight-lipped about their streaming service. Only a few little bits about their planned Netflix competition have been let slip. Until now, that is.
In a presentation, they showed off what the platform would look like. In addition, they also dropped a bit of what users can expect for their monthly payments. All of their major properties – Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, the Disney Animated canon – are there, each with their own column and landing. And there’s also everything they acquired in the Fox deal, too, which includes the likes of National Geographic, and even The Simpsons.
It’s also been made apparent that they really are taking a tilt at Netflix. A number of features are fairly reminiscent of those from the streaming giant. This includes the likes of multiple user accounts (with available parental controls, natch), recommendations and history based on user watch history, and the like.
Disney also seems to plan on bundling the service with its ESPN and Huu services for a deal. Disney+ already has deals in place to feature on Roku and PlayStation TV devices, with releases on Smart TVs and game consoles in the works.
Disney+ is set to launch November 12th this year, at a monthly price of $6.99. And, you know, for $7, if they add on the older odds and ends, like their old animated shows (some of which never got a physical release), as well as stuff like the old DTV filler, that’d be worth it to me. Not to mention the old shorts which can really break the bank as things stand now.
