Go ahead, think of a better title. I’ll wait.
According to Variety, Disney now has “full operating control” of Hulu.
To accomplish this, they paid Comcast around $5.8 billion. And while there is a statement that NBCUniversal’s content will remain licensed to the platform through 2024, the deal allows them to pull certain content back as soon as next year.Namely, this would be content licensed exclusively to the platform. As of 2022, NBCUniversal will be able to cancel most of these licensing agreements, which they might do as they’re planning their own free, ad supported service to launch next year.
In a statement, Disney chairman/CEO Bob Iger said:
We are now able to completely integrate Hulu into our direct-to-consumer business and leverage the full power of The Walt Disney Company’s brands and creative engines to make the service even more compelling and a greater value for consumers.

Disney now owns what could charitably described as a distressing number of major media entities. With the acquisition of Fox and Hulu, one wonders what might be next.
