Discord Planning To Make Initial Public Offering

Guess TeamSpeak wins by default?

It seems that the popular chat platform Discord is planning on making an Initial Public Offer (IPO), according to sources that have spoken to The New York Times.

According to the report, Discord executives have been meeting with investment bankers to discuss that IPO, which may very well happen this year. Discord was previously evaluated to be worth around $15 billion back in 2021. A spokescreature for Discord made the following statement to The New York Times:

Discord is a popular platform, especially for online gaming, as it offers voice chat in addition to its host of messaging features, among others. So much so, that both Xbox and PlayStation platforms have integrated it, with Discord itself debuting streaming options. It’s also free to use, though there are paid options that offer certain perks.

Personally, I’ve always hated its user interface, though I’ve occasionally been forced to deal with it.

Anyway, users have naturally expressed concern, as going public is something of a coinflip for these kinds of things. And that coinflip tends to turn up to be a losing proposition.

Let’s be honest, this was always going to happen. Discord CEO Jason Citron has been looking to do this for some time. It is, however, coming at probably the funniest time for it to happen. After all, you have Skype dying in May, and TeamSpeak making a resurgence. There could not possibly be a worse time for Discord to rock the boat, and yet, here it is!
