A tale of the making of one of the greatest worst movies ever made.
A24, the studio behind films such as Swiss Army Man and the Oscar winning Moonlight is making a film. Well, it’s a film about the making of a film. Well more like it’s a film about a book about the making of a film. Which film? Tommy Wiseau’s The Room. This is The Disaster Artist.
Starring James Franco as Tommy himself, alongside Dave Franco and Seth Rogen, the film is an adaptation of the book of the same name. And while Franco doesn’t sound exactly like Wiseau*, he’s got his cadence and mannerisms down well enough to sell it. Which cannot be underestimated; it’s very rare to have someone play a role and sound exactly like the person its based on.
*It’s worth noting that the scene in question was overdubbed by Wiseau in the final product.
The trailer probably has me more hyped for this movie than anything I’ve seen or plan to see this year. It may or may not win any awards. It will definitely pad Tommy Wiseau’s pockets. But I need to see The Disaster Artist.
