I love you, Capcom, but sometimes you make-a me SO MAD.
So, Gamespot got some hands on time with Devil May Cry 5 recently. And they noticed that it was possible to buy red orbs (the series’ upgrade currency) for real money. And so they asked the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, for some explanation:
“With giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it’s something we want to give people as an option. If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that. But on the other hand I don’t feel you have to get all the moves, ” said Itsuno. “You should be able to play it the way you want to play it.”
Devil May Cry 4 had microtransactions in a similar way, offering red orbs, blue orbs, and proud souls for cold hard cash. The difference there was that the game had been balanced around not having microtransactions. So as to how Devil May Cry 5 will handle it is not totally clear at this time. Let’s just hope they keep the tradition of rewarding skillful play alive, and that these transactions are for people who suck noodles at character action games.
Devil May Cry 5 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 8th, 2019.
