DC FanDome 2022 Gets The Axe

DC FanDome

It’s kind of the logical end result of what’s happening…

If you were counting on there being DC FanDome this year, well, I’ve got some bad news. Warner Bros. Discovery has pulled the plug on this year’s event. And, based on the statement the company gave, potentially for good.

With the return of in-person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022.

On the one hand, this is something of a shame for DC fans. DC FanDome was started during the pandemic as a way to connect with fans that couldn’t travel due to the restrictions in place. The 8-hour stream functioned as a virtual convention, offering a little bit of that interaction they were missing out on.

That said, it may also be the reason it’s not all that surprising that they would cancel it, at least this year if not going forward. The restrictions that precipitated it have been mostly lifted, other conventions are starting back up, and, oh yes, the recent merger. Considering the amount of the Warner slate that has been canned as a means of cost cutting, it makes a bit of sense that they might bid adieu to an event that they pay entirely out of pocket for.

There’s also the fact that there aren’t that many announcements for this year left. The only films left are the upcoming Black Adam, Shazaam: Fury of the Gods, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Ezra Miller’s apology tour The Flash movie. As for their “TV” projects, Harley Quinn is getting another season after the current one, Stargirl is currently running its third season on The CW (and is pretty much the only CW show currently worth watching), and Titans, Peacemaker, and Doom Patrol have been renewed for another season; at least, they were before the merger. If I were David Zaslav, and I was playing FMK with these three series, Titans would definitely getting the K.
