New show!
Fresh off of Star Wars Rebels, Disney is bringing Dave Filoni on for another show set in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Resistance is set between the end of the original trilogy and before the sequel trilogy. And yes, BB-8, Poe Dameron, and Captain Phasma will show up in cameos, with the latter two voiced by their original actors, Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie.
The show revolves around Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance as a spy against the First Order. And considering Filoni’s track record, the show ought to turn out pretty good once it gets over the usual first chapter syndrome so many things have. And he’s drawing from both personal interest and family history to breathe life into the show:
The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots […] My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.
The show already has a cast lined up, though there’s no info on when it will premiere. Filoni is, however, being joined by fellow Clone Wars Alumni Athena Portillo and Justin Ridge. So it’s all set but for the waiting.
