Wow, this keeps happening.
Yes, Lucasfilm just announced that Colin Trevorrow is no longer directing Star Wars Episode IX. Via starwars.com:
Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.
Rumors had been circulating about the possibility of the director leaving the project for a while. Supposedly (as per The Hollywood Reporter), much of the tension between Trevorrow and Lucasfilm Head Kathleen Kennedy revolved around the script. Or rather, scripts; Trevorrow had apparently been through several drafts. Kennedy had been trying to avoid a repeat as with the Han Solo film, but ultimately, things got past the breaking point.
Lucasfilm has yet to announce who will be taking Trevorrow’s place on Star Wars Episode IX, which is scheduled to release on May 24, 2019.
