Adventure games hold a special place in my heart. Growing up in the early days of DOS and Windows the games that I still remember most, aside from DOOM and QUAKE, are adventure games. These games felt huge, mostly because they were so damn hard in the days before the internet was around for walkthroughs.
So, whenever a new adventure game comes along I take notice. In this case the folks over at Sick Chicken Studios answered the call with the upcoming Guard Duty. And what’s even better is that the team has kept the pixel-style that defined early Sierra adventure games. Oh, and humor; lot’s of humor.
Coming to Steam this spring, for Windows, Mac, and Linux, Guard Duty is a comedy adventure spanning two radically different time periods: the cobbled streets of medieval Wrinklewood and the dystopian future of Neo London.
The story sees Tondbert, loyal guard to the Castle of Wrinklewood, who had a bit too much to drink last one night. He can’t find his clothes and vaguely remembers dancing around the Town Square in his underwear. Oh, and he accidentally opened the gate for a mysterious stranger in a black cloak.
Now Princess Theramin – heiress to the throne and the object of Tondbert’s unrequited affection – has been kidnapped. By a mysterious stranger in a black cloak. Oops.
With all the King’s horses and all the King’s men predisposed, it’s up to Tondbert to save the day – and, unbeknownst to him, the fate of humanity.
