Livin’ on the edge.
You may recall the Razer Edge. Last year, Razer decided they wanted a piece of the handheld gaming PC market too. Anyway, they have their own, and it’s launching soon.
That said, it’s not exactly a Steam Deck competitor. As noted in the article from the time, it’s really more of a gaming tablet, though it will have streaming capabilities. Realistically, it’s more of a middle ground between the Steam Deck, and Logitech’s G Cloud; it has local game storage, and streaming capabilities, but puts it all together differently from the ‘Deck.
The question is, will it be competitive enough on the market? At $400, it’s in the ballpark with most of the handhelds, between the Switch and the Steam Deck. That said, as far as that local storage goes, it’s seemingly going to be for apps and mobile games. Not like there aren’t good premium mobile games or anything, but you have to wonder if there’s enough…
However things work out, we won’t have long to wait. The Razer Edge launches on January 26th, and pre-orders are open now.
