2600 x 3.
Atari has partnered with MyArcade to produce 3 new devices dedicated to the Atari 2600. The Atari micro player, pocket player, and gamestation will all run Atari’s 2600 catalogue admirably.
The news comes out of CES this year, with all 3 of the sleekly designed devices on display. The gamestation is the typical rectangle you expect to see, and the pocket player is true to the form factor when it comes to handhelds as well. But special note goes to the micro player; it resembles a tiny arcade cabinet, similar to the likes of the NEOGEO Mini.
While all very nice, one does wonder why everything post-2600 seems to get left out of the party. It’s not hard to imagine any modern device that runs 2600 games couldn’t handle stuff at least through the Lynx catalogue. It could definitely handle 5200 and 7800 games, barring rights issues.
Regardless, MyArcade promises to have pre-orders up soon. So if it’s up your alley, or for someone you know, it’s best to keep an eye on MyArcade’s social channels.
