Something something Google Glass
That TCL was at CES is no surprise. But the fact that they’re entering the race to produce viable smart glasses, alongside some stiff competition, is. They showed off all they expected to be able to accomplish with their devcie in a section of their presentation dedicated to smart home devices.
Among the things they showed their glasses being used for were things like dialing into video meetings, display directions across your vision, taking and sharing photos, and virtual displays.
They binocular micro-LED color display that uses optical holographic waveguide technology to display information and images. Waveguide is already seeing use in other AR smart glasses, like Oppo’s Air Glass, so that’s not a surprise. TCL’s are powered by a Qualcomm 4100 processor, and feature a touchpad on the right arm for navigation.
As for a name, TCL is referring to these glasses as XR glasses. While they’re not functional just yet, they plan to have working units ready for Mobile World Congress in February.
