Small, small projector.
Smart glasses are a great idea that, for whatever reason, hasn’t had the takeoff it deserves. That’s probably because a certain company keeps buying out potential competitors in that space and sitting on the whole thing, but what do I know? Regardless, miniaturization s generally the way in tech, and that’s where Vuzix’s CES offering comes in.
Vuzix showed off their smartglasses at this year’s show, and the big deal is smaller and lighter. Frankly, they look little different from a pair of designer glasses you might normally see someone wearing. This is because their projector is tiny, as it uses MicroLEDs; the fruit of Vuzix’s collaboration with Shanghai-based Jade Bird Display. And together, these companies plan on releasing a number of wearable displays and glasses using this tech. And, coincidentally, aside from just being small, these MicroLEDs can turn on and off individually, lowering the amount of light getting blasted into your eye and potentially conserving battery live.
That all said, Smartglasses are an upcoming, competitive field. Facebook is expected to have a pair on the market this year, and Qualcomm is not too far behind them. Things are going to surge forward with them, soon.
