Sports and CES go hand in hand. We’ve seen all manner of smart treadmills and sports equipment over the years and we’ve even covered a damn treadmill for your cat this year. But the Verde G690 treadmill is a little bit different, and actually is a smart idea.
SportsArt, the team behind the Verde G690 treadmill, says this piece of exercise equipment is the very first treadmill that can generate usable electricity from your workout and pump it back into the electric grid, or probably even a home battery.
They claim that the treadmill can capture about 200 Watts per hour of the energy produced by whoever is practicing for their next marathon or simply looking to get a little more fit. The Verde G690 also tracks the wattage that you are pumping back into the electrical grid for you data fiends out there.
You can even turn this wattage output into a little game for everyone using the treadmill via the leader-board feature. Everyone that uses the device has their own wattage output listed encouraging each member of the family to get their workout on to save on that electric bill. Now you can yell at your kids to get on the treadmill for an hour for leaving the damn lights on when not in their rooms.
It’s a neat idea, but like most of these huge workout machines I see this working best in a commercial gym setting, although you can snag one for your home. Hell, keeping the lights on at those huge buildings is expensive, so imagine replacing your rows of treadmills with these!
