It was only a matter of time before a movie studio without a solid Marvel or DC franchise to their name to create their own Avengers like film based on public domain characters. Lionsgate is taking a stab at the ancient gods formula, one that has been struggling as of late with nary a decent re-imagining in decades. The Rock as Hercules was pretty fun, if a little boring, but other than that film, and perhaps that one where Liam Neeseon yells about a Kracken, these big budget films usually turn out to be big budget flops.
Still, I personally am a huge fan of these epic tales, especially knowing that without them we would not have the hero tales of today. I’ll definitely be checking this one out if only to see Leonidas take on Jamie Lannister. Check out the trailer to this Gods of Egypt below and prepare for some dated CG work!
Also, that movie poster we have in the header makes these goods look like fireflies…
