Leonardo DiCaprio and his new BFF Jonah Hill have found the man to write their next film: Billy Ray, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for writing Captain Phillips (he also wrote The Hunger Games and the criminally overlooked Breach).
The film is called The Ballad of Richard Jewell, and is based on a Vanity Fair article of the same name. According to Variety, the film is about “a security guard who reported on the knapsack bomb at the ’96 Olympics and helped clear bystanders – only to find himself villified and suspected of being involved in the terrorism plot.”
Sign me right the hell up for that. That sounds amazing. Hill will play Jewell, with DiCaprio apparently angling for a Best Supporting Actor nomination in the role of Jewell’s attorney. No director is attached, but let’s hope whoever it is has the sense to change the title; I’m fucking sick of movies or books being called “The Ballad of _____.”
