Bryan Fuller opens up about new Star Trek TV series

Star Trek CBS

Star Trek is making its way back to television where it belongs. Look, don’t get me wrong, I really love the movies (all of them), but the series is more at home on television because of the stories it wants to tell. Star Trek has never been about all out action and space battles (or lens flare) so the news of a new series has us all super excited.

The new show is being helmed Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) and will be unlike anything that has come before. Speaking with Collider, Fuller spoke about being excited and eagerly anticipating the premiere of the new series this coming January.

What has so many people excited is that Fuller is known for pushing the boundaries of network television as he did on Hannibal. Speaking on the new Star Trek Fuller said, ““Because we’re CBS All Access, we’re not subject to network broadcast standards and practices.” He continued stating, “It will likely affect us more in terms of what we can do graphically. But Star Trek’s not necessarily a universe where I want to hear a lot of profanity, either.”

Fuller also commented on the new Star Trek series consisting of 13 episodes. The first episode will air on CBS before heading exclusively to CBS All Access where it will air once a week for its 13 week run. Casting for the show is currently underway with Fuller saying he’s using ““a colorblind prism and a gender-blind prism,” in his search.
