Boston Police foil violent plot during Pokemon World Championship

The Pokemon World Championship went down this weekend in Boston. The event brings the best Pokemon players from around the world to compete the card game for honors and prizes. It’s a weekend of fun with people of all ages sharing in their love of the family friendly world of Pokemon. But his year’s event almost ended in a flash of violence as two men had plotted to attack the event.

A release made by the Boston Police Department states that the police department was notified of the possibility of violence at the event via social media threats that were made on Thursday, just before day one of the tournament. With the tips, Boston police were able to stop the suspects for questioning as they tried to get into the World Championships, but the duo were not arrested at that time.

The two men had come all the way from Iowa and were loaded with several weapons in their vehicle that they did not have licenses for. Police obtained a search warrant for the men’s vehicle where they found a 12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15, several hundred rounds of ammunition alongside a hunting knife.

On Friday, arrest warrants were issued for  Kevin Norton (18) and James Stumbo (27) and the men were quickly arrested at the hotel they were staying in. The two have been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and other firearm related offenses.
