Bloodshot USA #4 is everything I wanted to see for a final issue in this series, and hate me if you want for saying this, but clichés never looked so good! Sure, it was predictable, but there are certain things we don’t really get tired of, and I consider this resolution one of the best possible ending scenarios for a long story arc such as Bloodshot.
The first pages had nothing too remarkable about them, but it sure get rolling as the book develops. Starting with a little bit of drama and suspense, then wild action with some real emotional content that adds a more complete picture of the events. Bloodshot USA #4 can be read in about five minutes, but that’s not a bad thing as you’ll be engaged the entire time.
Also, there’s a lot of drama and tension in the second half of the comic book, increasing with each page and getting you ready for a climax that provides lots of chills and thrills. I dare you to read the book and tell me otherwise! The final scene is simply perfect and leaves it open to different interpretations on just what’s going to happen next. It’s a great ending while still leaving the door open for more.
I feel I missed a bit of the background story, as I don’t know how it all started for Ray, but Bloodshot USA #4 is still great enough to be enjoyed in any case. And in case you don’t find anything negative in this review, it’s only because I can hardly think of anything annoying enough to be worthy of mention. As a complete whole Bloodshot #4 is darn near perfect for me.
What really surprised me was the quality of the art, keeping the same style but still highly improving on itself showing a bit more care with details and little bits. There are some special effects here and there, some digital splashes that make it easy to get immersed in the story more than any of the past issues; not that they’re bad, but this one was something special.
Bloodshot USA #4 also presents us with great lettering that’s comfortable to read, matching the tones and coloring. This is one of those exceptions where a lot of text looks good if well used, and coming from the same guy who loves Savage, which is almost mute, means I’m telling it to straight.
The many warm tones and colors on almost all of the pages created a high contrast between them and the few, yet impressive, ones with a cold atmosphere. Risky, but effective, and with good results, giving us another reason to consider Bloodshot USA #4 as a cool final issue.
As I said before, this was the right time to be done with Ray, a.k.a. Bloodshot, and be sure that he left as a hero, giving space to future surprises and twists in the plot. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see him again, but I’m sure I’d like to know more about his friends, especially the one who saved the day.
