Bloodshot USA #1

I just read Bloodshot USA #1 and I must admit that it surprised me. It’s a very fast-paced story with an interesting idea at play that could set the ground for an entertaining dystopian plot. It straddles between a teenage and adult rating that should leave both demos satisfied.

Bloodshot USA #1 has real potential

The idea for the script is pretty straightforward with nothing shocking or overtly striking, but it has something that makes you keep reading. When I read about what happened before, how that “evil plan” came to be, it had something strange to it, as if there’s something we are yet to discover on the next issue, and I’m starting to have my theories about it.

To use Ninjak in this issue was a little weird to me. I know Valiant loves their connected universe, but sometimes it’s best to let their characters breathe on their own. I’m not that naive, but if you’re reading the both Ninjak and Bloodshot at the same time, it feels strange in some way with all the jumping around bits.

Bloodshot USA #1Just like Britannia before (the new mini series Valiant is currently publishing) this comic is more than just simple entertainment; It explores how wild and selfish humankind can be just to pursue selfish individual interests.

As a work of fiction this book is nothing to be amazed of, but as a story with some real sense, Bloodshot USA #1 achieves more in just one page than some movies in a full hour. More than just a simple comic Bloodshot USA #1 will get you thinking; For a little while, anyways.

Visually, it keeps the same style than in the Bloodshot Reborn series, bitter-sweet choice in my case, as I was waiting to see something new, different, a new vision on that story, but, at the same time, it gives a sense of continuity.

The first double page illustration is definitely my favorite among them all, with the level of detail I love and a dramatic effect that matches it. I think it could even look good as an animated movie and reminds me, somehow, about that Civil War tie-in I read months ago.

Bloodshot USA #1The same goes to the final page of Bloodshot USA #1. Loved it. Completely loved it! Stunning, attractive, and perhaps even a bit shocking to hardcore fans of the story. I’m also starting to see that this is the strongest point in Valiant’s corner.

Livewire’s first appearance also looked good, although I would have liked it more if Unity had more of an impact and was not just another part of the background. It has such an imposing appearance that could have been used better, but I feel it was wasted by remaining behind its side-kick.

Despite those little flaws, Bloodshot USA #1 has real potential and could definitely work as the finale for this story-line, or maybe just for “Ray Garrison,” since I think we’ve had enough of him already. In the meantime, make sure to pickup your copy and share your thoughts about it on the comments!
