BlizzCon: Hearthstone Expansion, New Mode and Board

Hearthstone

You can bankrupt yourself in advance now!

BlizzCon has been a treasure trove of new content. And Hearthstone definitely got a bit of love. The new expansion, Kobolds and Catacombs, was just revealed.

Furthermore, every current player who logs in this coming Monday gets the first card in the set for free! Marin the Fox allows you to summon treasure chests, which presumably have something good in them. And if you’re a BlizzCon attendee or digital ticket holder, you get him as a Gold card.

Also, you can pre-purchase 50 packs for the new expansion at a cost of $50 US. Those that do so get the exclusive For the Horde card back.

Furthermore, Kobolds and Catacombs has Legendary weapons for each class. So far, only the Priest’s weapon has been announced.

Furthermore, a few class specific cards from the set have been revealed:

Hunter Blizzard
Hearthstone
Warrior Blizzard

Note the use of the keyword Recruit in that Warrior card. That’s a new keyword for the game, meaning “summon a random minion from your deck onto the board“.

They also showed off the expansion’s new game board:

Finally, there’s also a new mode to go with that board: Dungeon Run. It’s a single player game mode meant to be replayable, judging from the mode-specific cards you can earn from it. The mode is free, and comes with 48 unique challengers for you to face off against.

The conceit is that you start with a small class-specific deck and battle your way through bosses. Each boss drops treasure in the form of cards that should help you progress. But the catch is that, should you lose, your run is over and you have to start over from the beginning. Some of the mode-specific cards:

And your first successful run earns you the Candle King card back:

So, that’s a lot of new Hearthstone content to keep players busy, I’d say.
