Bitzee From Spin Master Aims To Bring Back The Digital Pet Trend

Bitzee

Brings more to the table than an LCD.

If you were a 90’s kid, you remember the digital pet boom precipitated by Tamagotchi. Hell, it’s where Digimon started.

Well, Spin Masters has come to the conclusion that the market for digital pets is still there, it’s just gone stagnant. And they plan to change that with Bitzee.

Bitzee is an eight-bit digital pet nested in a purple clamshell. And it’s got a bit more under the hood than the 90’s examples; first and foremost, it has a full color touchscreen. While the usual care routine for digital pets is there, alongside rocking it to sleep, it also provides games to play with your pet.

Chris Beardall, President, Spin Master Toys and Chief Commercial Officer, states that the company noted complete whitespace in the market for the revival of digital pets. Their goal with Bitzee was to bring about more sophisticated interaction with the children playing with it by having it respond directly to touch with various sounds and interactions.

One other thing inherent to Bitzee is that the pets are able to evolve into one of 15 forms, from the common (bunnies and puppies) to “Super Bitzees” like unicorns and mermaid cats. This happens after filling up a meter by taking care of your Bitzee. Once kids unlock one of these rare forms, it permanently adds a new minigame and outfit for their pets.
