Birth control chip you can turn on/off via remote coming 2018

If you thought the taking birth control was too much os a pain, well, MicroCHIPS, a drug delivery implant development firm, has something just for you. A birth control chip!

You’ll now be able to, via a small chip interested just under the skin, active and likewise deactivate your birth control via remote control. How far away is this new technology you ask? MicroCHIPS states that it should go on the market sometime in 2018.

The entire system works by automatically releasing a low dose of the hormone “Levonorgestrel” once every day. What’s even nicer is that the tiny chip is set to be good for up to sixteen years. No doubt your doctor would check the system during regular check-ups, but MicroCHIPS is claiming that it is good for sixteen years without care.

The unit goes under the skin and features a 1.5cm microchip that stores the hormone that is released into the system via electric charge. Each dose is 30 micrograms allowing for years and years of dosage.

The one problem we can think of is as this is all wireless, how difficult would it be to have a nefarious 3rd party shut the thing off and if so, would there even be anyway to know? MicroCHIPS says this is unlikely as the remote would have to be really touching the screen for it to turn on/off the device.
