Starfield’s first trailer has dropped and we now know that the next big original IP from Bethesda will be an Xbox exclusive. The title is set to launch November 2022 for both Xbox and PC and will not be showing up on the PlayStation 5 console from Sony anytime soon, if at all.
Microsoft CFO Tim Stuart has already made statements saying that Bethesda games need to be “first of best” on the current Xbox consoles after the acquisition. This does leave the door open for Starfield being a timed-exclusive, although as of right now Microsoft seems to be hedging their bets on Starfield being their big blockbuster game of 2022. And that is important considering 2022 will be the first year that the current consoles finally come into their own.
We still don’t know a whole lot about Starfield as a concept, but knowing Bethesda you can probably figure it out. Todd Howard did speak a little regarding the title saying:
“We invite you to join Constellation, the last group of space explorers. It’s a next-generation role-playing game where you’ll be who you want, go where you want, experience our stories and forge your own…More than that, Starfield is about hope, our shared humanity and searching for the answers to life’s greatest mystery.”
