Man, I’m so glad we don’t have to write about Doctor Strange casting rumors anymore. We heard names like Jon Hamm, Ewan McGregor, Joaquin Phoenix, and Benedict Cumberbatch for months, in what I’m now convinced was a ploy by Marvel Studios to raise awareness of the character Doctor Strange. But now all the baseless speculation and “maybe”s can stop, because it’s official: Benedict Cumberbatch will play Stephen Strange.
From SlashFilm:
The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
Oh, and the film comes out in November of 2016, not July, as was previously reported. By then we should be hip-deep in True Detective season three rumors.
