Battlefield V Devs Axe 5v5 Mode

Battlefield V has been quite a mixed bag since it released. Critics seemed to mostly love the game the way someone loves an EA product because they write their paychecks, while fans panned the game because they know EA won’t cut off their food supply in the middle of the night.

If you don’t believe me just head over to the Metacritic page for Battlefield V and see the disparity between critic and user reviews. I don’t recall any other game having such a huge flop between the two.

Ouch.

Critics can love your game all they want, but if fans aren’t happy they aren’t buying it and aren’t telling their friends to buy it. The team seems to be getting the picture as a new note posted today by Battlefield V senior producer Ryan McArthur states that the games planned 5v5 competitive mode has been axed.

This mode isn’t something totally new to the Battlefield space as Battlefield 1 (the last game and not the very first game) toyed with a 5v5 mode in order to take advantage of the esports. McArthur said they are killing the competitive mode to better focus on fixing all the broken shit in the game.

“The added focus on improving the quality of the experience and adding more of the content you want has led us to step back from our original plans to offer a competitive 5v5 mode.”

Ryan McArthur

This is the perfect example of not finishing and bug-testing your game before release and just betting on some stupid “roadmap” to keep people giving you money for a product that isn’t ever going to get finished. Who the hell wants a god damn finger gun added when the game is still riddled with annoying bugs players have been complaining about?
