AT&T Hiking DirecTV Now Prices Next Month

If you’re subscribed to DirecTV Now, I’ve got some bad news for you. Per Variety, your rates are about to go up. Last July, AT&T raise the rates of their live TV streaming bundles by $5. And starting in April this year, those rates are going to jump another $10. But that’s not the worst part.

They also plan to streamline the bundles for DirecTV Now. Right now, there are five, each with a reasonable number of channels for their pricing:

AT&T

Now, however, they’ll be streamlining these bundles down to two. You’ll have DirecTV Now Plus at a cost of $50/month for 40+ channels. And you’ll have DirecTV Now Max, running $70/month for 50+ channels. Which, uh, hard not to notice sucks compared to even the base package from the previous lineup. Nice job there, AT&T; you didn’t stop at screwing your customers, you also insulted their basic math skills. The door prize here is that now both packages will offer HBO at no extra cost, while it was previously a $5 add-on.

DirecTV Now isn’t the only streaming TV provider to hike up prices, though. Hulu just upped the cost of their live TV streaming by $5 a month, meaning Hulu + Live is $45/month for 60+ channels (still a better deal). There’s also YouTube TV, which offers 70+ channels for $40 (though it’s yet to have a price hike). Neither Hulu nor YouTube TV offer HBO as a base offering, though; then again, you can add it to Hulu for $15 (and still come out ahead), and getting HBO Now is the same price regardless.
