Yes, we are finally at the point where developers are announcing DLC packs before the core game has even gold Gold. Assassin’s Creed –no stranger to botched releases and a Madden like turnaround– has announced that a Jack the Ripper DLC will be available; Available for the game that isn’t even done being made yet.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate drop this October, so we are still a little ways out, but this sort of announcement seems ridiculous. Look, I’m not against DLC, and even think it can really add to an overall experience and lengthen the enjoyment of a game, but this is just silly. At the very least wait until a game drops before telling everyone how cool your DLC is going to be.
Bloodborne is a great example of doing this sort of thing correctly. The game has been out for a good chick of time now, and we are just now getting the announcement for the first DLC expansion to the game. If you don’t give your game time to breathe, you make it seem like you are just trying to cram in content in one way or another.
This Jack the Ripper DLC takes place 20 years after the events of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s story and will be set in 1888 during the Autumn of Terror in Whitechapel. Sounds like a cool bit of DLC, but it would have been ever more cool to include it in the game as after end game content, or at least wait until the game drops so it seems this is something that wasn’t left out because of time constraints.
