Just savage, DC.
Aquaman has a special voice role for Julie Andrews, the original Mary Poppins. Andrews voices the undersea creature Karathen, an ally of the superhero in his quest to save both the undersea and surface worlds. According to the film’s producer Peter Safran:
We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered. And when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer.
Why is this significant? Because Aquaman hits theaters just a few days after Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns. a film in which Andrews turned down a cameo so as not to draw away from Emily Blunt’s performance as the titular character. And both films will share their first weekend at the box office.
Regardless of how you see that, Mary Poppins Returns premieres on December 18th, and Aquaman premieres in theaters December 21st.That said, Amazon Prime members get advanced screenings of Aquaman on the 15th.
